Untamed Horses are created from sticks and branches joined together with copper wire or hemp cord. Each is unique and animated with the spirit of the horse. People are instantly and deeply touched by their simple, yet expressive qualities.
Paula lives on See Off Mountain, south of Brevard, North Carolina. She grew up with horses and they have always been a very important part of her life. Her artistic and literary efforts are, not surprisingly, focused on all things equine. She has created art in many different media for gifts, including an annual Christmas tree ornament series.
In 2002, Paula came off while riding her horse and suffered a very severe head injury. Horses and art were vital parts of her recovery process. She rode in a therapeutic riding program and used the computer to draw unique, primitive horses, people, and other subjects. She enjoys watching her art create itself before her eyes.
While her husband was building their retirement home, Paula gathered a bunch of copper wire left over from the electrical work and a batch of sticks and branches from the trees in their woods. With these, she created a horse named "Clypso," after a horse she had for more than 25 years.
Then, she began to make more horses out of various types of sticks, twigs, and other natural materials that she joins together using copper wire.
