Lesson Title: Great Grannies (motifs and working in the round)
Offered By: Charlotte's Fibers, Inc.
Description: Teacher: Deb Burger Tuition: $40 Time: 3:30 PM - 3/26, 4/02, 4/09, 4/16 (4 sessions) With vintage styles on all the runways, the "granny square" is back in style... in today's colors and fibers! This class will start with a basic granny square pattern, from which students will decide whether they'd like to make an afghan, garment, or other project. A number of pattern options will be provided, but if you've always wanted to make a traditional granny square afghan "like your granny made", that will work just fine, too. Along the way, we will be learning the logic involved in working with motifs-- keeping them flat, keeping gauge consistent, methods for joining. We will be learning to read charts as well as written directions in a pattern, and by the end of the class, each student will be prepared to work any motif-based crochet pattern. Knowledge of basic stitches (chain, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch) is needed, even if you learned them a LONG time ago! Worsted weight or sport weight yarn in 2 or 3 colors will be needed and an H or G hook, respectively.

Following sessions will knit booties/mini socks from Cat Bordhi's "New Pathways for Sock Knitters" and are a great chance to try your hand at new techniques while making fantastic one-of-a-kind booties.

Freeform crochet allows you to design your own project (vest, bag, hat, coat, the sky's the limit) and then make a unique project of your own design. The first week we'll learn some great textural stitches and discuss possibilities... week 2 will find us playing a game to get the creative juices flowing through the chosen hook and yarns, and week 3 will get each student's design project off the ground and growing. Knowledge of the basic crochet stitches and a sense of adventure are all you need. Hook size will depend on yarns chosen.

Lesson Title: Foaming Waves Scarf
Offered By: Charlotte's Fibers, Inc.
Description: Teacher: Astrid Loveland Tuition: $15 Time: 3:30 PM – 3/30 (1 session) Astrid’s famous Foaming Waves scarf is being offered again. You’re welcome to know it, as Astrid did one of our samples, in true “lace weight” yarn. It’s just as effective, though, in something a bit thicker, such as Great Adirondacks’ handpainted “Sireno”. It clearly isn’t terribly difficult if Astrid believes you can pick it up in a single class (and Astrid knows!). Come inspect the lovely samples on display here in the shop and reserve a space to knit your own!

Lesson Title: Fixing Knitting Mistakes

Description: Teacher: Astrid Loveland Tuition: $15 Time: 3:30 PM– 3/29 (1 session) You’ve been asking for it so we’ve scheduled it – in this class Astrid will teach you how to pick up a dropped stitch, what directly to turn said stitch when you put it back on the needle, how to tell where you are in your pattern, which direction you were knitting when the phone rang and you hurriedly set down your project, and many more priceless bits of knitting knowledge. In fact, she asks that you bring in your most common problems and mistakes so she can share the solution with all the other class participants who find themselves in the very same situation over and over again.

Lesson Title: Beaded Scarf
Offered By: Charlotte's Fibers, Inc.
Description: Teacher: Astrid Loveland Tuition: $15 Time: 3:30 PM – 3/16 (1 session) It is no exaggeration to say that we have trouble keeping this particular kit in stock. The sparkle of beads adorning yarnl looks both elegant and difficult but the truth is that once those beads are strung on the yarn, you’re simply knitting. Nary a purl in sight. Great as a gift – to a friend or to your self.

Once you get the hang of it you’ll find patterns for vests, sweaters, socks and even gloves. Entrelac is such an appealing look that you’ll find yourself enjoying the compliments as much as you enjoyed the knitting!

Lesson Title: 2 Socks on 1 Needle
Offered By: Charlotte's Fibers, Inc.
Description: Teacher: Astrid Loveland Tuition: $40 Time: 10:30 AM - 3/09, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30 (4 sessions) Not only will you begin and end both socks at the same time, they’re guaranteed to be exactly the same size! If you’ve ever suffered “Second Sock Syndrome” (that’s knitters who can’t bring themselves to begin the second sock after they’ve finished the first) this is the Magic Pill to cure your ill! Getting started is something that many knitters would not try on their own, but that’s where Astrid comes in. Under her tutelage you will get those socks cast on and begun before you even realize it, and before it you’ll have a beautiful pair of hand-knit socks to enjoy!
