Description: July 22-26 Pottery Camp with Mountain Roots @ TC Arts Morning Session 9:00 am-Noon Ages 6-10 Afternoon Session 1:30-4:30—Ages 10-15 Cost--$225 per camper During this week of pottery camp, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice basic hand-building skills including the pinch, coil, and slab techniques. This experiential camp provides half-day hands-on opportunities to be creative, meet other campers, and create some really cool and useful art. Students will have the opportunity to paint on several of their own glazes (underglazes in various colors), and choose from a variety of colors for their other projects. All ware will be glazed in our dinnerware safe glazes and will be available for pick-up within 2 weeks of camp. Shipping may also be arranged. Description: This five-day class will be held on March 12-15 and 23 from 6-9 p.m. This course is geared toward the novice potter and is recreational in nature. Students will learn about the properties of clay and beginning wheel- throwing techniques. Students will learn how to transform basic cylinders into a variety of forms for both function and fun. Students will be given the opportunity to watch demonstrations, ask questions and then practice at their own pace. All levels of experience welcome. Cost per participant: $125. Description: This five-day class will be held on May 7-10 and 18 from 6–8 p.m. In this class students will learn how to make lanterns both large and small out of earthenware clay by piercing and cutting the surface to create a multitude of designs from simple to intricate that will dance when illuminated by a candle. Description: This five-day class will be held on January 9-12 and 20th from 6-9 p.m. This class is designed to help beginning wheel-throwers fine-tune and expand their skills while examining form and function. Students will learn how to collar in and expand forms while throwing, and create lidded vessels and goblets. Using tools to help with compression, consistency and design will be discussed. Students will review glazing basics and learn how to use wax resists and stains to create surface decorations. Students should be familiar with basic throwing techniques and have some experience on the wheel. The ability to center is a must. Minimum number of participants: 5. Registration is required. Description: Feb. 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 & 26 - Cost: $105 April 1, 5, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26 & 29 - Cost: $105 This course is open to former Carwile-Dodson Studio students who have completed a multi- week course at our studio with instructor approval. This is a non-instructional studio time for experienced students to continue creating with clay. Students participating in the Independent Study Studio Time will be allowed to use the studio two days a week. Thursdays from 6 - 9 p.m., and Sundays from 2-6 p.m.
